Dynamics of uniaxial-to-biaxial nematics switching in suspensions of hard cuboids

Field-induced reorientation of colloidal particles is especially relevant to manipulate the optical properties a nanomaterial for target applications. We have recently shown that surprisingly feeble external stimuli are able transform uniaxial nematic liquid crystals (LCs) cuboidal into biaxial LCs. In light these results, here we apply an field forces cuboids in LCs and sparks uniaxial-to-biaxial texture switching. By Dynamic Monte Carlo simulation, investigate unsteady-state dynamics at particle scale when applied (uniaxial-to-biaxial switching) then removed (biaxial-to-uniaxial switching). detect strong correlation between response time, being time taken system reorient, anisotropy, which spans from rod-like plate-like geometries. Interestingly, self-dual shaped cuboids, theoretically considered as most suitable promote phase biaxiality exactly prolate oblate particles, exhibit slow times, if compared cuboids.
